I’m Lisa Octavia, Joy Practitioner, counselor, and founder of
An Ounce of Joy.
Born and raised in Chicago and now rooted in Denver, I’m also a proud mother of three — La’Nika, Landon, and Logan, affectionately known as the L-family. With over 20 years of experience supporting youth, families, and communities, my work has always centered on compassion, emotional wellness, and creating spaces where people feel seen, supported, and grounded.
Over the years, I began to notice something consistent: people weren’t looking for more pressure to fix their lives. They were looking for permission to pause. To breathe. To reconnect with joy in simple, meaningful ways.
A moment of reflection.
A breath.
A pause.
A willingness to choose joy again.
During the pandemic, like so many others, I felt the weight of uncertainty. In that season, I returned to practices that helped me come back to myself — practices rooted in intention, grounding, and simple joy.
As I began sharing these practices with others, a familiar question kept emerging:
How do you stay calm, focused, and hopeful during difficult seasons?
Those conversations revealed something important. People weren’t looking for more to fix or push through — they were looking for ways to feel steady, present, and connected again.
That realization became the seed of An Ounce of Joy.
Today, this work supports adults through intentional practices, Joy Coaching, and transformational experiences designed to help joy become something lived, practiced, and integrated into daily life.
You don’t need to overhaul your life to feel better or seek out dramatic transformations. What you truly need are:
an ounce of intention,
an ounce of reflection,
an ounce of support,
an ounce of joy.
When space is created for these small, intentional practices, life begins to open again — gently, naturally, and sustainably. Joy becomes something you return to, not something you chase. This work is about honoring where you are, choosing yourself with care, and allowing change to unfold in ways that feel real and human.
